ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) — Authorities say that at least 61 people were killed in a stampede when New Year's revels turned into a panicked stampede in Abidjan, Ivory Coast's commercial center.

State radio and a fire department rescue worker, who refused to give his name, said that many more people were injured in the incident at about 2 a.m. after a fireworks display in the Plateau district of Abidjan.
