DELTA, Ohio (AP) — A northwest Ohio village is dropping a fake 6-foot chicken to mark the arrival of 2013 and kick off a big anniversary year.

The Blade newspaper (http://bit.ly/Z4FU92 ) reported Monday that a costumed, fake chicken was to be dropped at midnight from a fire truck ladder in Delta, about 25 miles southwest of Toledo.

The New Year's Eve event is new to the village of about 3,000. It helps kick off a year's worth of activities celebrating the 150th anniversary of the village's incorporation. The chicken also was chosen as a way of honoring the annual Delta Chicken Festival.

The chicken drop was to mark the countdown to 2013 just as the more traditional crystal ball drop was set to occur in New York's Times Square.
