LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — While much of the Midwest and Northeast is digging out from a winter storm, Arkansas is doing it without electricity.

Utilities say some customers could be without power into the new year. That has some residents scrambling to find warm places to stay in sub-freezing temperatures.

Bill and Kathy Garner found warmth at her sister's house, and Lynda Johnson has lined up stays at a number of hotels until power crews can restore service — perhaps next week.

Johnson complains the hotel stays are costing her money that she could spend at shopping centers.

A bout of freezing rain is forecast for Friday, and that could delay the restoration of power service even longer.
