Detroit organ donor remembered on parade float

DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit woman will be one of 72 organ donors remembered New Year's day in "floragraphs" on a float during the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, Calif.

Organs from Kristen Michelle Joe's body were used to save several lives following her death at age 28 in February from an asthma attack.

Family and friends created a display Dec. 15 incorporating her portrait and flowers. It will be added to the Donate Life Rose Parade Float.

Kristen was a community affairs coordinator with the Detroit Tigers.

About 2.8 million Michigan residents are organ donors. Last year, 792 organs were transplanted in the state. More than 3,000 residents are awaiting organ transplants.
