GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A Crown Princess cruise ship that had nearly 100 passengers sick with a stomach virus aboard a 20-day trip to Italy has docked in Galveston.

The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/VYFMl5) about 96 passengers and six crew members contracted the norovirus, a highly contagious gastrointestinal illness that includes vomiting, diarrhea and fever. Sick passengers were quarantined for three days. They received medical care in their rooms, which were also sanitized three times a day.

Princess Cruises officials released a statement Thursday saying the number of sick passengers had returned to normal levels. Spokeswoman Karen Candy says in the statement the ship would also be disinfected in Galveston.

The ship left Venice on Dec. 2. It arrived in Galveston early Saturday.
