SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in western Ohio say a jail inmate tried to escape after being treated at a hospital.

Clark County Sheriff's officials say 22-year-old Jayvon Hutchins received treatment Friday night at Springfield Regional Medical Center for injuries from a fall. They say he then assaulted a deputy and three hospital staff members as he tried to make a run for it. Police say they pepper-sprayed him outside the hospital. He was treated at the emergency room, then returned to jail.

Police say he has been charged with four counts of assault and one count of escape. No other information was available immediately other than that he remained in jail Saturday.
