Texas offers online help against childhood obesity

Thursday December 20, 2012 11:30 AM

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas has unveiled a website meant to help battle childhood obesity and identify areas of the state where youngsters are most at risk.

Comptroller Susan Combs on Thursday announced ReshapingTexas.org as a way to help focus on obesity costs, medical research and health initiatives.

A mapping feature uses fitness and body mass data collected by school districts and reported to the Texas Education Agency to help pinpoint at-risk areas. Combs says ReshapingTexas.org also encourages users to offer success stories.

The 2011 Legislature ordered the comptroller's office to set up a website to compile research information on childhood obesity and provide other assistance.
