YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Two women are seeking exhumation of their dead mother in an Ohio lawsuit accusing a funeral home of stitching her eyes and mouth shut.
The Pennsylvania women asked a judge to order the exhumation of Rose White — a Youngstown native who died at age 93 in 2008 — so the body can be examined by an expert.
The (Youngstown) Vindicator (http://bit.ly/VNIw4s ) reports that the women in 2011 sued the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home, as well as a body transport company and one of its employees. It accuses them of mishandling the body.
In a court affidavit, family members said they were horrified to see the dead woman's eyes and mouth stitched with dark thread.
The funeral home's attorney says it did nothing wrong but will not oppose the exhumation request.
