Proposal would require gunshot wound reporting

Monday December 17, 2012 7:15 AM

JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) — A state lawmaker from Jackson is proposing legislation that would require medical workers to report any patient injuries stemming from suspected abuse.

Rep. Keith Gingery's measure also would require that gunshot wounds be reported to law enforcement.

The Republican tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide (http://bit.ly/SiV88q ) that Wyoming already requires reporting of suspected child and elderly abuse.

However, while advocates for doctors and domestic violence victims support reporting gunshot wounds, they say the abuse reporting requirements would break their trust with patients.

The measure will be considered in the Legislature, which meets next month.
