SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California woman has died from the West Nile virus.
It's the first Orange County death this year from the mosquito-borne virus.
The county Health Care Agency says the Tustin woman, who was in her 60s, died last week. There are no other details.
West Nile is passed through the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes become infected by feeding on infected birds.
One out of every 150 infected people develop severe symptoms, including neck stiffness, disorientation, coma and paralysis.
