Adams County buck tests positive for CWD

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials say an Adams County buck has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, signaling the disease has jumped further north out of the southern Wisconsin management zone.

A bow hunter killed the deer south of Lake Arrowhead and east of Petenwell Flowage in the north-central portion of the county on Nov. 7.

Department of Natural Resources officials say the deer was killed nearly 40 miles north of the nearest CWD-positive deer and about 25 miles from Buckhorn Flats, a former captive deer farm that had been infected.

DNR officials say they plan to discuss whether to expand the management zone.
