Heart disease, not crash, caused driver's death

Wednesday December 12, 2012 7:30 PM

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's office says it was cardiovascular disease that killed a woman whose car plunged into a creek near the Mall of Louisiana.

An autopsy report on 89-year-old Vivian Augustin of Baton Rouge said the car's crash into Wards Creek on Monday afternoon did not contribute to her death. Coroner Beau Clark told The Advocate (http://bit.ly/TVwfh3) his office cannot pinpoint if Augustin had a heart attack but said "the presumption is pretty high."

It took roughly four hours for searchers to locate and remove Augustin's vehicle from the water after the crash.
