2 Westerly students win AIDS video contest

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two Westerly High School students have won a state-sponsored video contest promoting HIV testing.

The Rhode Island Department of Health says Zoe Prescott and Bomina Belden won the inaugural "Say Yes to the Test" competition with a 30-second spot produced for a class project. Their video emphasized a federal statistic that 20 percent of the 1.1 million people in the U.S. with HIV don't know they have it and are at risk of infecting others.

The state plans to incorporate the winning submission into a statewide campaign to promote routine testing for HIV and other AIDS prevention measures.

Two other students from Westerly High came in second.
