CLEVELAND (AP) — Authorities say two people sleeping in a Cleveland apartment were injured when a car jumped a curb and slammed into the building overnight.

WEWS-TV (http://bit.ly/W2jDEj ) reports that it happened at about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday when the car ran a stop sign and slammed into the building, landing inside an apartment.

Two people sleeping inside were injured, but it wasn't known to what extent. They were taken to a hospital. Police said the residents are probably alive because they were sleeping on the floor instead of in a bed where the car landed.

Police said the driver first attempted to report his car stolen. Then he changed his story to say his brakes failed. He was arrested at the scene. Police believe alcohol was a factor.
