Orthodox counselor on trial in Brooklyn abuse case

NEW YORK (AP) — A religious counselor is on trial in Brooklyn on charges he sexually abused a girl under his guidance for three years.

Necheyma (ne-HEM'-ya) Weberman has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex abuse. He says that he is the victim of an angry girl bent on revenge because she believes he told her parents about a boyfriend.

The girl testified for several days, telling jurors that Weberman forced her to perform oral sex and act out porn films, starting when she was just 12 years old. She is now 17. Prosecutors say the abuse lasted for three years from 2007 to 2010.

She told a counselor at a different school and eventually went to police.

The trial started last week.
