PHOENIX (AP) — An Arizona man charged with detonating a homemade explosive device outside a Social Security Administration office has made his initial court appearance.
Forty-seven-year-old Abdullatif Ali Aldosary is charged in a federal complaint with maliciously damaging federal property by means of explosives and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He appeared in a Phoenix courtroom Monday but didn't enter a plea. Another appearance is set for Wednesday.
Authorities say witnesses spotted Aldosary's car fleeing the scene of the Friday morning bombing outside a Social Security office in Casa Grande, about 50 miles south of Phoenix. No one was injured, and the explosion caused minimal damage.
Authorities say a search of the suspect's house in nearby Coolidge turned up chemicals that could be used to make a bomb.
No defense attorney was listed in court records, and a message left at Aldosary's home wasn't returned.
