CHICAGO (AP) — A health fair with free, confidential HIV and hepatitis C testing is planned for Friday at a Chicago movie theater to mark World AIDS Day.
U.S. Rep. Danny Davis and Illinois Department of Public Health Director LaMar Hasbrouck plan to take part in the event at Chatham 14 Theaters.
The health department is screening the documentary "Endgame: AIDS in Black America" at the theater. Panel discussions on the HIV and AIDS in Illinois also will be held. This event is free and open to the public.
About 34 million people worldwide are living with HIV, and 2.5 million people were infected last year despite a drop in new infections during the past decade.
