WILLEMSTAD, Curacao (AP) — Police on the southern Caribbean island of Curacao say thieves boarded a boat and stole about 70 gold bars worth an estimated $11.5 million.

Curacao police spokesman Reggie Huggins says the band of thieves assaulted the captain in the early-morning heist. The captain and several others on board the "Summerbliss" are from the South American country of Guyana. Police say there were six thieves and they made off with the gold in three cars. No suspects are in custody. Huggins declined to say who owned the boat or to provide any details about the source of the gold.
