REPUBLIC, Ohio (AP) — An early morning house fire in rural northwest Ohio has killed five people.

Authorities in Seneca County say they believe three children under age 12 and two adults were in the house when the fire broke out near the village of Republic, about 50 miles southeast of Toledo. The five bodies have been recovered.

A fire department spokesman says a truck driver spotted smoke coming from the house and called 911 just after 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters say the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived there.

The two-story house is fairly isolated. It's surrounded by farm fields and is about a quarter-mile from the nearest home.
