FLORENCE, Colo. (AP) — Officials at the Supermax federal prison in Florence are taking steps to improve treatment of inmates with mental illness.

The improvements follow a lawsuit that accuses the government of indifference.

According to the Denver Post (http://tinyurl.com/cjgvu98 ), the lawsuit claims prison officials transfer inmates they know to be mentally ill to Supermax, then stop treating their illnesses.

The lawsuit claims at least six Supermax inmates have killed themselves inside the prison and many others have attempted suicide or mutilated themselves.
