DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A new health center in southwest Ohio is focusing on women veterans' needs.
The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center says its Veterans Health & Wellness Center is intended to better meet women veterans' needs.
The Dayton Daily News (http://bit.ly/SdVpam ) reports a $4.3 million investment expanded services for female veterans, including providing an all-female care team.
The Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center's director says the VA for years has been viewed as a male-dominated organization. Director Glenn Costie says the new center demonstrates the VA is prioritizing women veterans' needs.
Officials say the United States has more than 337,000 women veterans, compared with fewer than 160,000 in 2000.
Costie says the Dayton center serves about 2,000 of the estimated 4,000 to 5,000 eligible women veterans in the region.
