Duck hunter drowns in NE Ohio lake when boat flips

BAZETTA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a duck hunter drowned after a boat flipped over and sank in a northeastern Ohio lake.

The Bazetta Township Fire Department says the boat flipped around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County.

Fire Chief Dennis Lewis says the three men aboard yelled for help and were heard by duck hunters on the shore. They called 911.

Two of the men were rescued. They were taken to St. Joseph Health Center in Warren for treatment and were released.

Lewis says 15 agencies, including members of a dive team, looked for the third hunter for hours. The search for 35-year-old Daniel Khalil Jr. was suspended around 4 p.m. because of dropping water temperatures and fading daylight.

About an hour later, a hunter found Khalil's body floating 10 feet from shore, nearly a mile from where the boat sank.
