BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — The Texas Department of Public Safety says at least 35 people have been injured in a more than 50-vehicle pileup that forced the closure of Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas.

KFDM-TV reports that DPS says the collision happened around 8 a.m. Thursday on I-10 near Beaumont, about 80 miles east of Houston.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Rod Carroll says the fog in the area is extremely dense.

Acadian Ambulance spokeswoman Denise Richter tells KFDM that at least 35 people have been taken to area hospitals. No deaths have been reported.

I-10 has been shut down in both directions.
