TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A judge has sentenced a father in northwestern Ohio to 2 ½ years in prison for picking up his 4-month-old son by the leg, causing a fracture.
The Blade (http://bit.ly/QUTzgl ) reports that 18-year-old Jesus Rivera was sentenced Monday in Toledo. He had previously entered a plea to attempted child endangering.
Prosecutors said the child suffered a spiral fracture to his right leg when his father picked him up by the limb on June 10. Judge Ruth Ann Franks told Rivera he "ignored all responsibilities that he had" when he committed the abuse.
Rivera said in court that he was sorry for the pain he caused his son. He said he wanted to attend counseling and parental classes so that he could get custody of the child again.
