VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Vicksburg Mayor Paul Winfield underwent hip replacement surgery Tuesday at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Marie Thompson, the city's policy director, tells the Vicksburg Post that Winfield was in good condition.
Winfield said Monday the surgery was to correct a birth defect aggravated by playing football. He was a defensive back and linebacker at the University of Mississippi in the 1990s.
He would not say which hip was being replaced or how long he would be away from City Hall. He said he would not attend the Wednesday meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
