CANTON, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio native attending Yale University in Connecticut is one of 32 American students selected as 2013 Rhodes Scholars to receive scholarships to Oxford University.
The award pays all expenses for up to four years of study at the university in England for Micah A. Johnson of Canton.
Rhodes officials say the Yale senior majors in molecular biophysics and biochemistry and psychology with a neuroscience concentration. He has focused on brain disorders and researched Parkinson's disease. He worked in Ghana to design and develop a plan to improve mental health care and founded a Yale program assisting public health in Latin America.
Johnson will pursue a master's degree in public policy at Oxford.
Rhodes scholars are selected based on qualities including high academic achievement, personal integrity and leadership potential.
