SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say a South Jordan man faked terminal cancer and got a family trip to Disneyland out of the deal.
Court documents show the 46-year-old man was charged with felony communications fraud on Thursday.
Authorities say a Mormon ward threw a fundraiser for the man last September to send him and his family on a final vacation. Police say they identified $1,700 in donated money in bank accounts for the man and his wife.
Police say they found transactions at Southern California cities and Disneyland between Sept. 21 and Sept. 26 of last year.
The charge was filed after detectives say they checked medical records and determined the man didn't have cancer and wasn't terminally ill.
