Nearly 200 sickened in possible norovirus outbreak

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) — Health officials say nearly 200 students and staff at a Detroit-area school have been sickened in a suspected norovirus outbreak.

The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/UImy8e ) Annapolis High School officials told the Wayne County Department of Public Health that 173 students and 17 staff members started falling ill Wednesday.

The school was expected to be closed Friday while the building is disinfected.

Norovirus is part of a family of viruses that are spread person-to-person and cause flu-like symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramping.
