WASHINGTON (AP) — A former Army major has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution for his role in a bribery scheme at a military camp in Kuwait.
Forty-year-old James Momon Jr. of Alexandria, Va., is one of 19 people who have pleaded guilty or been convicted in the ongoing investigation. In addition to the prison sentence, he was ordered Tuesday to pay a share of $5.8 million in restitution, along with co-defendants in the probe.
The Justice Department said Momon received bribes from contracting firms that provided bottled water and other goods to U.S. military bases in Kuwait. In exchange, he helped them win contracts with the military.
Momon had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of bribery and one count of conspiracy.
