2 killed in truck that collided with ambulance

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Two people have been killed in a Hamilton County crash involving an ambulance and a truck.

WTVC-TV (http://bit.ly/ZBS4Us ) reported the deaths Tuesday morning were confirmed by Hamilton County Emergency Services Director Ken Wilkerson.

The Rural Metro Ambulance was coming to Chattanooga from McMinn County when it and a truck collided on Highway 58. Wilkerson said the deaths occurred in the truck.

Five people who were in the ambulance were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Wilkerson said the ambulance was transporting a special needs patient, the patient's nurse, the patient's mother and two emergency medical technicians.

It wasn't immediately clear how the crash occurred, but video by the station showed the ambulance on its side.
