ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state's counties are calling for changes in the way services are provided to children aged 3 to 5 with disabilities.
The New York State Association of Counties on Monday released a report calling for reforms to New York's Preschool Special Education Program. The program costs about $2 billion annually and serves about 75,000 children, and counties say their share of the mandate is costly.
Counties are calling for streamlined transportation and greater input in placement of the children, among other changes.
