Man who escaped from Ariz. jail back in custody

PHOENIX (AP) — Authorities have apprehended a man who escaped from an Arizona jail Sunday morning while being held on attempted murder and robbery charges.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio (ahr-PEYE'-oh) says authorities captured 26-year-old Adan Orduno Jr. on Sunday evening in Phoenix.

Sheriff's spokesman Officer Christopher Hegstrom says Orduno was being housed in the county jail's psychiatric unit and was discovered missing just before 9 a.m.

Authorities originally thought Orduno might have been hiding somewhere at the sprawling south Phoenix jail, which also houses Arpaio's famous "tent city" lockup. But jail personnel searched the 600,000-square-foot complex and determined he wasn't here.

Arpaio says Orduno now faces additional charges related to the escape. Arpaio says an investigation into how he got out is under way.
