LONDON, Ohio (AP) — A Madison County judge has sentenced a drunk driver who laughed after killing a husband and wife to 16 years without parole.
Common Pleas Judge Robert Nichols imposed the maximum sentence on 32-year-old Timothy Ackley, of London, Friday. Ackley pleaded guilty in the deaths of 56-year-old Mark Williams and 51-year-old Jo Ann Williams of West Jefferson.
The couple was nearing home by motorcycle April 7 when Ackley crossed the center line in his pickup truck and struck them.
Prosecutors said Ackley was callous when he laughed about going to jail after seeing their bodies under his car.
The Columbus Dispatch reported Saturday (http://bit.ly/TRxApA ) that Ackley had a nearly 20-year criminal record including seven felonies.
Mark Williams' sister told WBNS-TV he was the third brother she's lost to a drunk driver.
