NEW YORK (AP) — One of the nation's largest commuter railroads is suspending service because of a nor'easter sweeping the same regions hit by Superstorm Sandy more than a week ago.
Long Island Rail Road spokesman Sam Zambuto says the suspension started around 6:30 p.m. He says the problems included downed utility poles and wires on tracks, as well as signal issues.
The storm has brought gusty winds, rain and snow to the region.
It's unclear how long the suspension will last. Tens of thousands of Long Island residents rely on the railroad to get to work in New York City.
Several thousand customers lost power as the new storm hit, on top of the 150,000 who still lacked it after Sandy.
