NEW YORK (AP) — Around the New York area, some of those lucky enough to escape Superstorm Sandy's wrath have taken in Sandy's displaced.
They are friends, neighbors and colleagues who have fled their cold, dark homes in search of food, light, a hot shower. They need juice for their cellphones, iPads and laptops.
Jill Meltz is an advertising executive who lives in a one-bedroom Upper West Side high-rise apartment far from where Sandy did most of her damage.
She took in a couple from the city's hard-hit Chelsea section along with their baby and 4-year-old child. She says "it wasn't ideal, but we actually had a lot of fun."
