Ohio school closed because of illness

Friday November 2, 2012 6:15 AM

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) — Health officials closed a southern Ohio elementary school for the day because of a widespread gastrointestinal virus.

The Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/QaAeas ) reports that the Clermont County Health Department recommended that Batavia Elementary School close Friday after more than 200 students fell ill. The community is east of Cincinnati.

Officials said the building will be thoroughly cleaned over the weekend. There is no school until Wednesday, so officials are hoping the break will give students time to recover.

The school has about 800 students in kindergarten to fourth grade.
