MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — The state Health Care Authority has reaffirmed its position that the operator of West Virginia University Urgent Care is not subject to the certificate of need requirement to relocate.
University Health Associates said Thursday that the authority rejected a request from Mon General Hospital to reconsider its decision to waive a certificate of need requirement.
The authority ruled that UHA is a private practice and exempt from that requirement. Mon General has disputed that, arguing UHA is the clinical practice arm for WVU physicians and controlled directly by WVU Hospitals.
Chief Medical Officer Judie Charlton said UHA intends to begin work and break ground on the new WVU Urgent Care soon.
A Mon General representative did not immediately return a telephone message by The Associated Press seeking comment.
