WASHINGTON (AP) — Courts may have held back tough new voter ID laws in some states, but the rival campaigns are still debating the impact of changing rules.
Laws mandating government photo ID remain on the books in New Hampshire and Indiana. But they've been blocked in Ohio and Pennsylvania, at least for now.
Democrats say new rules like this -- and curbs on registration and early voting -- are aimed at suppressing the votes of blacks and other minorities.
But Republicans contend they're needed to prevent voter fraud.
In a broadcast interview, President Barack Obama vowed to ensure the widest possible ballot, telling backers, "We will make sure you vote."
