WASHINGTON (AP) — Prosecutors are seeking a 6-day jail sentence for former D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown.

Brown pleaded guilty in June to federal bank fraud and a misdemeanor campaign finance violation. His plea agreement called for a sentence of up to 6 months.

Prosecutors filed a sentencing memorandum Thursday requesting a 6-day sentence, to be served on the weekends, followed by three years of supervised release.

His lawyer asked that Brown be spared jail time and instead get community service. He said Brown has already endured significant public humiliation.

Prosecutors say that although his crime was serious, he deserves credit for accepting responsibility and for cooperating with law enforcement.

Brown's conviction is part of an ongoing federal investigation into corruption in the District of Columbia government.
