Nebraskan's jailing delayed for eardrum surgery

KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — A Kearney man will have surgery on an eardrum damaged by a blast of illegal explosives before he begins his jail sentence.

The Kearney Hub reports (http://bit.ly/U0pHQu ) that 31-year-old Scott Rhone on Tuesday was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years of probation for felony possession of a destructive device. He also was sentenced on two drug counts.

Authorities say Rhone was injured when he ignited a metal tube filled with powders he purchased at a gun show.

Rhone told the judge Tuesday that the surgery is scheduled for next month, so the judge ordered Rhone to report to Buffalo County Jail on Jan. 7.
