SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Thousands of registered nurses are expected to join a one-day walkout on Thursday at Northern California's Sutter Health hospitals.
It's the sixth strike organized by the California Nurses Association in a lingering contract dispute with Sutter hospitals in Alameda and San Mateo counties. The last walkout was in July.
Issues include sick leave and patient care.
The San Francisco Chronicle (http://bit.ly/WZlm0u ) says the targeted hospitals are Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley and Oakland, San Leandro Hospital, Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, Vallejo's Sutter Solano Medical Center and Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley.
The hospitals will remain open during the 24-hour job action involving up to 3,500 registered nurses and several hundred respiratory and X-ray technicians.
