Ohio Senate leader wants review of election issues

Tuesday October 30, 2012 5:00 PM

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's Senate leader says he intends to convene a group of lawmakers to study whether changes are needed to the state's election law.

Republican Senate President Tom Niehaus (NEE'-hows) told reporters Tuesday that when the Legislature returns after the Nov. 6 election, he'll appoint a small working group to review whether the law needs to be updated.

Proposed election law changes sparked partisan rancor in the state Legislature this year. And Ohio's rules on early voting and provisional ballots have been the subject of recent legal disputes.

Niehaus wouldn't say whether he wanted to see a bill passed this year. He said that depends on what the group discovered and how the election process goes next week.

Niehaus said he also will reach out to Democrats about the working group.
