AIKEN, S.C. (AP) — The city of Aiken is taking blood samples and waist measurements from about 200 residents for a long-term cancer prevention study.
The Aiken Standard reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/TFNPBW ) that 80 people enrolled in the American Cancer Society's Cancer prevention study Tuesday. It examines people's physical measurements as well as their behavior, health habits, environments and genetics.
The program will study 300,000 people over 20 to 30 years in order to learn about the causes and possible prevention of cancer
Lisa Glass is the community manager for the South Atlantic Division of the cancer society and she says they are looking for 200 participants from the Aiken area.
Other events are planned for Murrells Inlet, Conway, Georgetown, Myrtle Beach, Columbia and Charleston.
