Ohio Craigslist teen defendant: testify or not?

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The defense at an Ohio murder trial must decide whether to call as a witness the teenager charged in the shooting deaths of three men lured by phony Craigslist job offers.

The defense for 17-year-old Brogan Rafferty of Stow opened its case Monday in Akron. The defense may be ready to call him to testify Tuesday, after a psychiatrist takes the stand.

A defense witness on Monday testified that Rafferty was quiet and respectful when co-defendant Richard Beasley welcomed her into his halfway house. But she says Rafferty seemed different last fall, about the time of the slayings.

The defense is trying to portray Rafferty as an unwilling partner, afraid for his family if he backed out. The prosecutor says he had plenty of chances to make the right decision.
