SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Female inmates at a San Antonio jail are donating their hair to ease some of the emotional anguish of children being treated for cancer.
For a second year in a row, women in the Bexar (BAYR) County Jail had their ponytails and braids cut for use in wigs to be made for children who lose their hair to chemotherapy or illness
KENS-TV (http://bit.ly/TD7NNF) of San Antonio reports 43 women donated their hair Monday for the Locks for Love project this year. No men participated.
A ponytail had to be at least 10 inches long to be donated. Once cut, the hair is treated and woven into a hairpiece. Six to 10 ponytails are needed for a full hairpiece.
