COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a central Ohio man who was killed after going to a rental property to check on a possible break-in.

The Columbus Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/RnKBnG ) that property-owner Tom Miller rushed over to the storage barn as soon as an alarm company called around 7 a.m.

The paper says Miller's wife, Orfelina Miller, heard three gunshots almost immediately afterward and later learned from a police detective that her husband of 43 years was dead.

The paper says a pickup truck was backed up to the side of the barn Sunday afternoon and Tom Miller's vehicle appeared to have rammed or blocked it.

Police in Pataskala (puh-TAS'-kuh-luh) in suburban Columbus were not commenting about the shooting.
