FIRE ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say a small plane crashed into an inlet on Long Island's Atlantic Coast, killing two, and that both the aircraft and the bodies of two men aboard have been retrieved from the inlet.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Eric Swanson says the bodies of the men and the plane were taken from the Moriches inlet, near the eastern end of Fire Island, shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, about eight hours after the aircraft crashed.

Swanson did not identify the men, saying the next of kin were being notified.

He said the FAA is investigating the crash.
