Ohio casino caters to Asian-American gamblers

CLEVELAND (AP) — Northeast Ohio's new casino has joined others around the country in catering to gamblers of Asian descent.

The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer (http://bit.ly/TfdQxI) reports that the region's Asian community is important to the Horseshoe Casino Cleveland, where Asian-American players regularly pack its baccarat tables.

The casino offers events tailored to Asian tastes and hosts who handle tasks for those bettors, including arranging complimentary meals or hotel stays. Two Hong Kong natives assigned as liaisons are the casino's executive host team's only members dedicated to a specific ethnic group.

Census estimates show only about 16,000 people of Chinese descent in northeast Ohio. But Cleveland's Chinese community leaders say gambling has a significant place in community culture.
