Luxembourg royals tie knot at the altar

LUXEMBOURG (AP) — Luxembourg Prince Guillaume and Belgian Countess Stephanie de Lannoy have put the finishing touches on their two-day wedding extravaganza with a religious ceremony at the tiny duchy's Notre Dame Cathedral.

With a celebratory fireworks show still to come, Saturday's church wedding drew onlookers lining the streets and royals from around the globe including Crown Prince Naruhito of Japan, royal couples from Sweden and Denmark, and Britain's Prince Edward — Queen Elizabeth's youngest child — and his wife, Sophie.

The couple also had a civil ceremony Friday at city hall.

Stephanie plans to renounce her Belgian citizenship in order to one day become Luxembourg's grand duchess. The tiny country wedged between France, Belgium and Germany is an important financial center and continues to prosper despite Europe's economic trouble.
