CINCINNATI (AP) — A contest to name a new baby giraffe at the Cincinnati Zoo is down to three finalists.

Zoo officials say they got more than 5,000 submissions to name the female calf born Oct. 12.

Giraffe-keepers narrowed the submissions down to their three favorites: Mara, which means "spotted," Lulu, which means "precious," and Rosie, after the Cincinnati Reds.

Voting is only open Thursday with the winning name to be announced Friday.

The public got to see the baby for the first time on Monday after she was born to 6-year-old Tessa.

The baby is the second giraffe born at the zoo in more than 25 years. The first, Zuri, was euthanized last year when it was 3 months old after suffering a debilitating leg injury.
